My Story

Welcome to Mama Bear Doula Services! My name is Lisa Viehouser, and I am a Birth and Postpartum Doula who serves the Spokane area and the Palouse cities including Pullman, Moscow and Lewiston.

More about me…

I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Eric for 40 years. We have 6 adult children, and two grandchildren 14 and 10. When we get together for Christmas, including spouses and

friends, it's a crazy, noisy and fun time!

During the years when I was having and raising children, other friends would ask me to come to be at their births to support them. It has been a dream of mine for many years to be able to be trained and serve as a doula for families as a vocation. In 2020, my dream became reality.

The year 2020 was so challenging, but also had a few hidden blessings. Virtual learning became instantly possible so I was able to work at my job in Spokane, be with my family, and participate in virtual training in Seattle. I attended Bastyr University, Simkin Center (created by Penny Simkin), for both the Birth and Postpartum Doula Training classes in the fall of 2020. I started attending births in December, and was certified by PALS doulas in March of 2021 and later became certified by DONA as a birth doula in 2023. I plan to finish the process of becoming certified as a postpartum doula with DONA this fall.

In 2021 we sold our home in Spokane and moved to the Palouse, settling in Pullman, WA and

are loving smaller town life.

My Philosophy
My Training

“Birth is not about “doing it right ” or “one way is better than the other.”  I am convinced that the birthing person and their partner need to be given evidence based information and support as they make the choices that feel right to them. It is also very important to me to give you the nurturing and informed care that you deserve. I am honored to support all kinds of families, and look forward to partnering with you as you welcome your little one.”
